Currently, Public Safety officers already have the authority to make arrests under various circumstances, though the victims are often consulted to determine whether a suspect will be arrested, referred or both. With peace officer status, Public Safety officers increase their arrest authority to enforce orders of protection in relationship violence calls, issue appearance tickets, and transport arrestees in serious offenses to booking.
