The tragedy at Virginia Tech has had a profound effect on so many. Most especially the VT community in Blacksburg, but also people across the country and those of us here at Syracuse University.

This site is intended as an informational resource as we try to comprehend what has happened and show our support for, and solidarity with, those most closely affected. Please refer to it and contribute to it. Content suggestions may be sent to SU News Services.

Events/Activities

Pages of Sympathy, Hendricks Chapel, through April 24, 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m.
Pages will be available in the Narthex in Hendricks Chapel (front entrance to the main chapel) for individuals to write a message of condolence to the Virginia Tech community. The pages will be bound together and mailed to the Virginia Tech campus next week. If you prefer, you can log on to the Hendricks Chapel website (http://hendricks.syr.edu) and send a message that will be printed and included in the book.

Take Back the Night Rally, March, and Speak Out, Hendricks Chapel, April 18, 7 p.m.
This annual rally to end sexual violence, open to students, staff, faculty and the public will include reflections on the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Free parking in the University Avenue Garage. Sponsored by the Syracuse University R.A.P.E. Center. Note: The Rally and March are open to the media. The Speak Out is closed to the media, so that speakers can relate their personal experiences in a more private setting.

Banners Supporting the Virginia Tech Community, Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center, April 18-20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Add your message of condolences and support for the Virginia Tech community to one of several large banners that will be shipped next week. Sponsored by Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity.

'Orange and Maroon Effect' Day, April 20
Members of the SU community are encouraged to wear orange and maroon colors as part of a nationwide effort showing solidarity with the students, faculty and staff of Virginia Tech.

Individual Messages of Condolence for Virginia Tech Students, Faculty and Staff, Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center, April 23-28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Members of the University community are invited to fill out cards, which will be sent to Virginia Tech. Cards can be addressed to an individual or to the community at large. Cards provided by the Schine Copy Center; event co-sponsored by the Student Association and all recognized student organizations.

Speak Out Against Violence, Panasci Lounge, Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center, April 25, 4 p.m.
An opportunity for the Syracuse University community to publicly raise its voice against the violence that has befallen Virginia Tech. Sponsored by the Greek Council and the Student Association.
